Plant Stall Info

Standard

Dear Kinder folk,
At the fete last year the plant stall was a great success due to the hard working organisers and generous donations given by local business’ and those in the kinder community.
This year we still appreciate (lots of) help and donations. So now is the time to pot up any beauties that you may have growing profusely in your garden that you would like to donate to the fete.
Strawberry runners,  herbs (rosemary, oregano, mint etc), lavender, succulents, bromeliads or any other plant that can be propagated in preparation for the fete would be appreciated.

We would also love to sell vege seedlings, generally 4 weeks prior to the fete is a good time to plant seeds (this gives the seeds roughly enough time to be well established for planting out by the purchaser, depending on varieties),  tomatoes, peas, lettuce, eggplant etc or parsley and chives just to name a few.

Edibles are easy to sell and surprisingly we’ve had children wanting to buy vege seedlings to take home and grow!

I f you are interested in contributing I would love to hear from you, and can be contacted at the following email address, michelle@joharchitects.com.au
I am currently gathering cuttings from various sources (friend’s gardens etc) and starting to stockpile, it would be great to collect donations in the week prior to the fete (as we all live on little inner urban house blocks!) so if you could nurture the plants until then, again it would be appreciated.

We would also like to hear from anyone who can contribute on a larger scale ie: from garden retailers/wholesalers.

 And one more item:

Not only do we want to sell gorgeous plants, but other items that are associated with gardening; straw/mulch, pea growing trellis etc.

 Happy planting.

Now is the time to get involved with helping out on the fete-

Standard

I still have a couple of coordinating roles to be filled for the day of the fete and could really do with your help!?

(A volunteer board will be set up prior to the fete for people wanting to help out for a few hours on the different stalls.)

Food stall – I’m looking for someone to work with me on organising and running the food stall on the day of the fete.

Face painting stall – I need someone who can come and help set up the stall on the morning of the fete and get it up and running, showing the volunteers what to do.

Side show alley – This role involves helping set up the different activities and explaining how they work to the volunteers that will work the stall on the day.

Spinning wheel – This role does not included any prior fundraising as all the prizes will be ready to go! It will involve setting up the prizes and selling tickets on the day of the fete.

You are not expected to work the stall all day as you will have other volunteers helping you on the day!

Could you please contact Cathy Boucher on 0435292434, email me at cssundbye@hotmail.com or leave your details in the feedback for this blog if you can get involved in any way.

Which drink has an enormous place in the lives of millions of people?

Standard

If you live in Brunswick, coffee would probably spring to mind! But on a global scale it is tea of course!

We have a new and fantastic addition to this year’s fete, Masteneh Nazarian and her mobile tea bike. She will be serving up Japanese, Chinese, Indian and Australian tea of the back of her bike throughout the day at our fete this year. She is also hoping to do either a chai or iced tea depending on the weather!

This is just what we need to have in our hands as we watch the children enjoy the fete!

Here are some more details about this amazing lady and her service:

Background to Tea Bike:
Tea Bike is about shared stories, part tea tasting wagon and part art wagon. Tea Bike aims to bring together universal recipes for healthy living.  No right recipes, just how to go about solving problems in day to day living.

every given situation or puzzle in life can have more than one solution
sharing stories has the power to transform that story
everything begins as an idea, and taking time to enjoy this moment can give us clues as to how to bring ideas to fruition

I have distant memories on sharing tea, both in my childhood’s dream imagination and in my interaction with those around me.  In Iran light tea concoctions are even given to young babies to soothe colic.
Tea Bike is an outlet for me to serve tea, to give people a mobile experience of simple flavours that are nurtured through land, sun and careful tending. On a deeper level it is an outlet for nonverbal communication; a desire to share my observations through a very simple, ancient and universal thing: tea.

As a musician, mum and tea lover, I find that what I learn from my experience with tea goes beyond the tea itself.  It somehow binds me to my purpose and a true nature that is beyond me, yet so much a part of who I am becoming. For me pouring tea is about many things, compassion and non-doing in everyday activity are central.  Never an end to my curiosity about leaves and water, and never a true answer about what makes a perfect cup, just a simple and endless pursuit.

I hope I can inspire you with my joy in the simplicity of this universal beverage!

Mother’s Day Cake Stall

Standard

On Saturday May 12 at Moonee Ponds Central, we held our annual Mother’s Day Cake Stall.  It was the first time we’ve been at Moonee Ponds, and it was terrific.  We had some great helpers on the day: Karen, Cathy, Jihan, Anna, Sema, Edwina, Jane, Helen and John.

Lots of families baked and we had a huge number of cakes, biscuits and slices to sell.  We also had some great craft items from last year’s fete.  It was lovely seeing so many families coming down to the centre to drop off cakes on Saturday, and then buying something else to take home.  We also had quite a few families stop by with teenage children who had gone through Brunswick kinder many years ago.  Some of them remembered one or two of our current teachers very fondly.  Our stall sold out by 1pm, and made $1133 in profit.

A huge thanks to everyone involved and to Moonee Ponds Central for making it really easy to move our stall for the first time in ten years!

Next Fete committee meeting 29th of May

Standard

Tuesday the 29th of May, 7:30pm at the Kindergarten

Yes it’s that time again! And the 29th is next week!

The fête is creeping up on us faster than we think so we really need to get together and discuss our game plan. There are still a lot of things to do, more tasks than hands at the moment, so I really need you to come along .

I would really like to catch up with those people who already have a role to discuss where they are at, what needs to be done and when; so that there are no questions or confusion about their role.

As I said before there are more tasks than hands so I would really love to see some new  faces at the meeting, it is never to late to get involved. There are a whole range of jobs to do before and on the day and any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.

PLEASE, come along and get involved!

What are you working on at home?

Standard

After seeing Celeste’s beautiful dress it has inspired me to share some of the craft activities I have been working on at home.

I’ve had a go at the Fairy wing tutorial that Celeste blogged in her craft section and it was surprisingly easy and the results are stunning, now I only have to make 20 more for the craft stall!!!

It was a project that I was able to do with the kids and Gaston particularly enjoyed painting his Dragon wings, he decided on green and then more and more colours went on and of course they finished up brown, but a beautiful brown in his opinion!!

The process involves burning small holes through the stocking after painting using an incense stick which makes them beautiful with the sun shining through the wings.

Celeste and I would love  to see what you are working on at home too. If you could put your photos and description in an email and send it to brunswickkinderfete@wordpress.com we would love to put it up on the blog?

Another Project

Tracey sent me through an aspiring project that I just had to have a go. A fantastic idea of a cubby house made out of material that you throw over your kitchen table and hey presto….. a fun place to play! This project worked even better as Tracey kindly handed over a huge box of curtain lace to use on my no-sew fairy skirts, (will blog about that later as I’m still working on them!).

But I have to say, it’s a mammoth project and took me most of a day to do it and a very rough job at that! But it was really fun and I liked the decorating on the outside and the kids are LOVING it!

First Meeting of Brunswick Kinder Craft Group

Standard

On Monday night this week, we had our first meeting of the Brunswick Kinder Craft Group at my place in Brunswick East. It was great to meet other crafty mums and we have some great makers who will have some amazing crafty items for sale at the Brunswick Fete.

Some of the ideas we discussed were making costumes – superhero capes, dino tails, fairy skirts (no sew and sew). We also discussed recycling fabric from Savers and Op Shops into dresses, shorts, tops. We sorted through some old stock from previous craft stalls and will upcycle in the next few months. We also discussed dyeing fabrics and creating small things with paper. Here are some pictures of a dress I’ve been making from an old tablecloth.
A great suggestion was to create paper lanterns and paper balloon balls.
Here is a pattern from Emma Jones blog – cloth ball pattern
I encourage other parents who are interested in attending upcoming meetings to let me know by emailing Celeste – brunswickkinderfete@gmail.com Our next meeting will be in June. That meeting will focus on making things with paper.
I have put together a list of basic things to bring along for a card making night and some images of the sorts of things we could learn to make. I will purchase some stock cards and gift tags with our Spotlight Donations card (thanks to Spotlight for the $20 donation).

 TOYS  TOYS  TOYS

The famous Brunswick Kinder Fete Toy Stall will be on again this year!  To make this stall the success that it was last year, we need all parents to put aside those favourite toys they no longer use or need for the toy stall.

We will start collecting at the beginning of Term 3 in mid July as it’s a big job storing so many toys! Please make sure that all donated toys / games / puzzles are complete as there’s nothing worse than buying a toy only to find it has pieces missing. We would also appreciate it if parents could give toys a good wipe prior to donation as they can get pretty grubby and it’s a big job cleaning so many toys!

The toy stall is a very popular addition to the fete and all the kids get a real buzz from bringing in some pocket money and selecting a new toy to take home.  Your support is greatly appreciated!
